Intercontinental Climate Change and Social Justice Conference

We co-hosted this conference with the Rotary E-Club of E.A.R.T.H., in collaboration with District 2430 and District 3011. Experts from the United States, India and Türkiye discussed climate resilience, social justice and the green transition, turning the partnership begun in February into a concrete event.

At the Zone 21 summit our member Nisa Ildız Çelebioğlu moderated, Diana Maria Pirga spoke, and Kenan Ateşgöz represented the club. Proceeds from the summit's live auction went to the Polio Fund.

The Evrensel Rotaract Club, first proposed in August, held its inaugural meeting. It starts out as the district's first online Rotaract club.

A member's polio work on Rotary's official channels

Diana Maria Pirga, our member and a digital communication specialist for polio at UNICEF Pakistan, had her video published on Rotary International's official channels after it appeared in the Zone 21B journal. The club had already moved its meeting half an hour earlier to fit her time zone in Pakistan.

RotoPep, the weekly bulletin of the Rotary Club of Evanston, covered the visit of our member Mehmet Doğaç Gülnerman and his wife Elif Keleş Gülnerman to a club meeting, and introduced Evrensel Rotary Club as a club from District 2430.

We joined the ICC instead of our own meeting on Peace Day

For the International Day of Peace we set our regular meeting aside that week and joined the shared session of the Türkiye and USA Intercountry Committees. Dr. Özden Selcen Özmelek's talk, "Almost at Peace", asked whether peace really is no more than the absence of war. A new appointment for our member Çınar Yeşil was announced at the session as well.

Banner exchange in Amsterdam

Our member Nehir Öztürk attended a meeting of the Amsterdam International Rotary Club and exchanged banners on behalf of the club. Members from France, Italy, Mexico, Taiwan and Türkiye were present, and our work on artificial intelligence drew interest.

Rtn.io, the first artificial-intelligence fellowship in Rotary, was founded under our club's leadership. The initiative was featured in the July issue of the Zone 21B magazine.

Peace center thrives on common ground

The first cohort at the Otto and Fran Walter Rotary Peace Center at Bahçeşehir University included 13 fellows from Egypt, Bulgaria, Kenya, Jordan and Yemen. Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,800 fellows from 140 countries.

Nanotechnology brings safe water to the Ganges Delta

The Rotary Club of Calcutta brought safe water to about 25,000 people at 14 sites using gravity-fed filters that need no electricity and treat 1,000 litres an hour. The project was supported by a 30,000 dollar global grant.

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore New Town provides tuberculosis patients with protein supplements twice a day. The programme has reached 950 patients and the local death rate has fallen from 7 to 4 percent.
